Dramatically spread over seven hills, the rapidly expanding city of Yaoundé features a host of art deco, independence-era and 1970s government buildings in various exuberant styles. It’s a little hard to raise your gaze from the incessant and perilous traffic to take this in, but amid the busted pavements and hustlers you can still feel the confident flourish of Cameroon’s nationalist movement in the country’s capital.
