Myrina, built between two coves near the mouth of the Dardanelles, surrounds the site of an old Venetian castle. The city is filled with traditional houses decorated with red ceramic tiles and scenic paved alleyways. It is rich with historical and archaeological sites such as Poliochni and Hephaistia, whose name comes from the Greek god of fire, Hephaestus. Legend says that the god used the volcanoes of the island to forge his metalwork after being cast from Mount Olympus by Zeus. Visitors to Myrina can immerse themselves in exploration of this ancient culture, or spend time swimming and kite surfing at Romeikos Gialos beach before venturing into town for a taste of the local Greek cuisine.
