Newhaven is on the mouth of the River Ouse and is rich in history -- the Roman military road Ermin Street probably started there. Castle Hill was probably first fortified in 400 B.C., and bronze tools and Roman coins have been found in the area. A marina and shingle beach is perfect for water sports like deep sea fishing. Take a drive through the surrounding countryside including the South Downs, the famous Seven Sisters cliffs, Cuckmere Valley, Brighton, Lewes and Eastbourne.
