Nightingale Island is an active volcano, part of the South Atlantic island group known as Tristan da Cunha. These islands, administered by the United Kingdom, are mainly visited for scientific research. The magnificent wildlife, including an estimated one million seabirds, is unspoiled by human habitation. Nightingale has two peaks on its north end and the rest of the island is ringed by cliffs and sea caves.
