Symi consists of two main settlements, Yialos and Chorio, and is home to a settlement that stretches from the harbor to the top of the hill. This spectacle of stone houses is painted in all colors with red tiled roofs and little railed balconies. The main attractions in the harbor are the Nautical Museum and the Town Square, a popular venue for local festivals. Take the stone steps from Yialos up the Kali Strata to reach the village in the upper part of town, where you can get another view of the beautiful harbor and continue on to explore the neoclassical houses of Chorio. Go off the beaten path and take a boat taxi to visit the local beaches and their crystal clear water, or spend time exploring around the island to discover the many old churches and monasteries that Symi has to offer.
