At the south bank of the Sognefjord, enclosed by high mountains, lies Vik. Visiting the Hove Church is one of the many possible scenic tours starting at Vik. Another trip leads to the Hopperstad Church, built in 1130. It is a perfect example of the sacral architecture of Norway. The cascade-style step-roof reaches into the sky and, inside, a gallery with arcades encircles the small, three-nave room in its center.
