Woody Point is renowned for its otherworldly landscape. The Gros Morne National Park tablelands are made of peridotite, like much of the surface of Mars. NASA and the Canadian Space Agency study this unique land form for insights into possible bacterial life on the red planet. This earned Gros Morne its World Heritage Site status from UNESCO in 2010, and the area remains a geological relic from the time when the continents of Africa and North America collided 485 million years ago. The park also features a deep fjord along with rare marshland plants including butterworts, great sundew, orchids, dragon's mouth and pitcher plants.
