　　7 Hike through the El Yunque Rainforest

　　Puerto Rico is much more than just beaches and historical sites; the island nation is also home to a densely populated rain forest.

　　10  Walk through the historic Guajataca Tunnel

　　Although it’s known by locals as the “The Black Tunnel” don’t let the name veer you off from walking through the historic Guajataca Tunnel. A railroad tunnel that was previously used to transport sugar cane, today, is the entrance to the stunning Guajataca Beach.

　　To get arguably some of the best views of the ocean, on the entire island, make sure to stop by the Mirador de Guajataca, and don’t forget to grab some local snacks on the way there.

　　11 Feel the thrills of a jet ski ride!

　　A surefire way to dial up the adrenaline, jet skiing is one of the most popular activities in Puerto Rico. Rent your own jet ski or join a tour if youre after a more educational adventure.

　　Here, youll find a network of coral reefs, as well as plenty of turtles and colorful fish. The best part? Many of the San Juan-based dives require no prior experience!

　　If you are certified, however, then you open yourself up to myriad other diving opportunities. For example, the more remote Culebra island, or the beautiful Fajardo region (islands northeast).

　　15 Make it a beach day at one of Puerto Rico’s incredible beaches

　　If you find yourself on the islands southwest point, check out the pristine waters of Playa Sucia, Buyé Beach, and Playa El Combate Beach, offering their fair share of waves, and natural beauty on the shores worthy of exploring.

　　Go for a swim in the turquoise blue waters of the natural pools that have formed on Mar Chiquita Beach, and afterward grab a bite to eat at one of the food trucks serving authentic Puerto Rican food.

　　Put your explorer hat on at Peña Blanca Beach and Playa Jobos, both on the northwestern coast of the island, where you can explore hidden caves during low tide, or take on the surfer-worthy waves.

　　 No vacation to Puerto Rico is complete without a day spent horse riding through the sprawling countryside.

　　Considered one of, if not the best beach on the west coast of Puerto Rico, Crash Boat Beach is often referred to as the crowning gem of Aguadilla — and once you see it first-hand, you’ll quickly understand why.

　　The turquoise waters and white sandy beaches present it as the ideal photo backdrop, and a cozy cafe or local restaurant is never too far away.

　　If youre a relative newbie and want a local professional to show you the ropes, then La Pared Beach in Luquillo or the beaches of Carolina are probably your best bet – there are even full-day surf camps on the menu.

　　Prefer to surf independently? The most famous surf beaches — all of which are worthy of a visit due to their regular lively atmosphere — are Domes, Sandy Beach, Maria’s Beach, and Surfer’s Beach.

　　35 Take a peek into history at the Castillo de San Cristóbal

　　Spanning around 27 acres, Castillo de San Cristóbal was originally constructed to protect Old San Juan from foreign attacks.

　　36 Get all scientific by exploring the Arecibo Observatory

　　[CLOSED RIGHT NOW] The platform of the Arecibo Observatory, unfortunately, crashed into its dish on 1 December 2020.

　　For a great insight into the world of astronomy, check out the guided tour of the famous Arecibo Observatory.

　　You’re not really vacationing in Puerto Rico if you haven’t spent at least a couple of hours kicking back and enjoying the fruity cocktails at the Casa Bacardi distillery.

　　But there’s far more than just cocktails at this iconic watering hole: the famous Distillery offers immersive mixology classes, teaching you everything you need to know two about mojitos and mimosas!

　　40 Catch a Glimpse of the Breathtaking Beauty of the Rio Camuy Cave Park

　　Famous for its spectacular interiors, the Rio Camuy Cave Park features stalagmites and stalactites that are millions of years old — it’s no wonder that the Rio Camuy Cave Park draws the attention of nature lovers from near and far.

　　With a selection of incredible tours available, there are plenty of ways to explore the beautiful 108-hectare park.

　　Travelers love checking out the Segundo de la Portilla — a centuries-old stone building that still stands today.

　　42 Spend a couple of hours at the Museum of the Americas

　　One for the history buffs, there’s arguably no better place to learn about the fascinating cultural heritage of Puerto Rico than at the popular Museum of the Americas.

　　The museum – which is held within a stunning 1880s army barracks – offers access to both temporary as well as permanent exhibits, working together to provide an impressive overview of the region’s cultural development.

　　While youre there: The museum is located right in the heart of Old San Juan (Viejo San Juan). Reserve some time to 16th-century Castillo San Felipe del Morro and the 18th-century Castillo San Cristóbal before heading back to the main area of town.
