Additionally, there’s no easy way to quickly see which hotels are offering Cash + Points availability for your desired travel dates. You can only see if there’s availability within an individual hotel’s website, which can be time consuming if you’re comparing multiple hotels.

Fees

When you book an award stay entirely with points, you usually don't have to pay taxes and fees on top of the points with one exception: if the hotel charges a resort fee, you will have an additional cash outlay for the stay.

On the other hand, when you book a Cash + Points rate, you’ll be responsible for any taxes and fees that apply to the cash portion of the rate. Depending on the category hotel, the additional taxes and fees can add a noticeable amount to the cost of the stay.

Another way to look at this scenario is that instead of paying nearly $1,000 for a room, you could pay only $250 and 40,000 points. This gives you an opportunity to save 30,000 points to put toward a future stay.
