Denmark is widely recognised as one of the most cycling-friendly countries in the world. According to the Cycling Embassy of Denmark, Copenhagen has five times more bicycles than cars, with over 62 per cent of the residents commuting to work by bike. Bicycles were first introduced to Denmark in the 1880s, and by the 1920s and 1930s, cycling became a powerful symbol of equality and freedom. Even today, cycling is highly convenient in most Danish cities due to an extensive network of bike paths. According to the tourism authorities of Visit Denmark, the national network of cycle routes covers around 4,770 kms throughout the country. If you are an avid cycling enthusiast and headed there, bookmark this list of the most stunning cycling trails in Denmark.

The route passes through coastal Denmark, including the fjords west of the Little Belt Bridge, the archipelago around South Funen, and the cliffs on the island of Møn. Cyclists have the opportunity to hop between islands, cross bridges, take in heritage structures, or take their bikes on cycle-friendly ferries to explore tranquil islands and peaceful beaches, while continuing the loop around southern Jutland. You will travel through a unique landscape formed approximately 15,000 years ago by the glaciers from the Ice Age.

This scenic route features approximately 180 kms of islands, bays, and ports, with ferries and multiple bridges connecting the land. Along the way, cyclists will cross the medieval castle Spøttrup Middelalderborg and the Sallingsund Sound. The route also takes riders through picturesque port towns, offering beautiful views of the fjord. You will cross the Limfjord by ferry at its mouth, connecting to the Kattegat, and at the Thyborøn Canal.
