Stunning King Corner Room at B Ocean
This past weekend, we were lucky enough to be in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. for the grand opening of hotel, which soft opened in January and is the first in a new brand of hotels.
It’s a great-looking hotel with all the signs of modern trendiness: it’s white, it’s minimalist and austere, and the lobby brightens up with colored lights come nightfall.
The hotel is right across the street from a great beach, and every single room has a beautiful ocean view — no rooms face the back of the hotel. The personable Holli Ugalde (winner of Hell’s Kitchen Season 7) helms the casual B’stro restaurant (which will appear in every B hotel), and across the lobby is the dimly-lit, delicious Saia, serving inventive (if expensive) sushi and hand-crafted cocktails.
But while it looks like a hip W hotel, it’s actually playing to a slightly older audience. The hotel is catering to the 30 – 70 crowd, which may sound like a huge range, but that’s excatly the point: B Ocean prides itself on being a destination that everyone will enjoy.
Unfortunately for the child-less, that means that everyone is welcome, including families. They fill up the pool on weekend afternoons, and can also be found at the sexy Saia sushi restaurant in the evenings. That’s when it becomes clear that despite appearances, this is no W hotel. That’s good news for families though — B Ocean is definitely more family-friendly than its looks would let on.
Stay tuned for more B hotels popping up in the years to come, each one named for its location. B Mountain perhaps? B Central Park? Who knows! We just know that you should about it.
