Marriott Bonvoy to Partner with MGM; Hyatt-MGM Partnership to End
Marriott Bonvoy to Partner with MGM; Hyatt-MGM Partnership to End-December 2024
Dec 22, 2024 12:53 AM

Big changes are afoot at some of the best-known resorts and casinos along the Las Vegas Strip. MGM is enging its partnership with Hyatt and switching to the Marriott program. Starting in 2024, Marriott will partner with MGM Resorts on bookings, loyalty programs and even a gaming platform.

As part of the long-term agreement, a dozen MGM-affiliated Las Vegas resorts and casinos will soon become part of the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio. The arrangement will allow Marriott Bonvoy members to use the company’s booking channels to book stays, earn and redeem points, and tap into loyalty benefits when staying at certain MGM properties.

Among the MGM-affiliated resorts affected are ARIA Resort & Casino, Bellagio Resort & Casino, Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, MGM Grand Hotel & Casino and The Signature at MGM Grand.

The Cosmopolitan, the lone MGM property already partnering with Marriott’s Autograph Collection, will continue its partnership. Five other MGM resorts outside of Las Vegas are also part of the deal.

Once the two companies are linked up, MGM Rewards members will enjoy reciprocal loyalty benefits when booking hotel stays in the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio. This partnership will start just after MGM Resorts winds down its partnership with Hyatt come late September.

Here’s what to know about MGM’s impending partnership with Marriott, its outgoing one with Hyatt, and how this could affect your future trips to Las Vegas and beyond.

Marriott-MGM partnership

The partnership between Marriott and MGM Resorts will officially launch in early 2024.

Though the deal will eventually encompass 17 MGM resorts and more than 40,000 rooms nationwide, only several properties will be affected initially. The companies expect a full rollout by the end of the year.

Perhaps most significantly, this partnership will allow Marriott Bonvoy members to earn and redeem points at some of the best-known resorts and casinos along the Las Vegas Strip.

More robust details about linking accounts and loyalty benefits are expected closer to the partnership’s launch, the companies said in a July 17 statement. That goes for Marriott Bonvoy members booking stays at these MGM properties and MGM Rewards members booking stays at Marriott-affiliated hotels.

Which MGM Vegas resorts are joining Marriott Bonvoy?

By early 2024, Marriott Bonvoy members should be able to book stays at 12 MGM Resorts properties in Las Vegas and five others throughout the U.S. using Marriott’s booking channels — and vice versa.

As part of the arrangement, Marriott plans to form an entirely new collection as part of its global portfolio: MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy. Each of the 17 MGM properties nationwide affected by this partnership will be part of that new collection.

However, Marriott will also add a handful of those same MGM properties to some of its existing hotel collections, such as The Luxury Collection and The Autograph Collection.

The new partnership between Marriott Bonvoy and MGM Resorts affects five properties beyond Las Vegas.

Borgata (Atlantic City, New Jersey).

Beau Rivage (Biloxi, Mississippi).

MGM Grand Detroit (Detroit, Michigan).

MGM National Harbor (Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C.).

MGM Springfield (Springfield, Massachusetts).

Gaming partnership included in the deal

Marriott has also inked a loyalty agreement with BetMGM, the online gaming and sports betting arm of MGM Resorts.

As part of this deal, Marriott and BetMGM will roll out ways to earn Marriott Bonvoy points on certain gaming transactions and turn BetMGM Rewards into Bonvoy points.

The companies are expected to release further details on this collaboration sometime this fall.

Hyatt partnership with MGM ends

The partnership between Marriott Bonvoy and MGM Resorts means the end of another such deal.

Effective Sept. 30, Hyatt loyalists can no longer book stays through the company’s booking channels at MGM properties.

Though all existing reservations will be honored, customers won’t be able to earn World of Hyatt points or Tier Qualifying Nights for any stay with a checkout date beyond Sept. 30.

It’s a similar story for MGM Rewards members: no MGM Rewards Tier Credits for any dollars spent at Hyatt properties after Sept. 30.

Customers in both loyalty programs who tier matched into the other’s loyalty program between March 1, 2023 and July 14, 2023 will retain their status through Jan. 31, 2024 (for MGM Rewards status) and Feb. 29, 2024 (for World of Hyatt status).

MGM-Marriott partnership recapped

Beginning in 2024, Marriott Bonvoy and MGM Resorts will start a new partnership. Most notably, the change will allow Marriott Bonvoy members to book stays and tap into loyalty benefits at a dozen Las Vegas resorts and casinos, plus five properties elsewhere in the U.S.

Meanwhile, the change does spell the end for MGM’s partnership with Hyatt. If you’re a World of Hyatt elite with a stay stretching beyond the end of September, you may want to add an MGM Rewards number to your reservation — or, once you’re able, a Marriott Bonvoy number.
