Vietnam's small but elegant capital city lies on the right bank of the Red River in the heart of the northern delta. Boasting more than 1,000 years of history, Hanoi hosts more cultural sights than any other city in Vietnam such as the Old Quarter, the city's commercial heart since the 15th century. Hanoi is also home to more than 600 temples and pagodas, most notably the Temple of Literature, which encompasses Vietnam's first Confucian sanctuary and its first university.
