On Tongatapu's northern shore lies Nuku'alofa, the country's capital and major port. Sprawling along the sea and backed by a lagoon, the town features white-frame, picket-fenced houses. Its small size makes it easy to explore on foot. Most of the activity centers along the waterfront thoroughfare, with the Royal Palace at one end and the Yacht Club at the other.
