Waingapu is the warm, active economic center of Sumba Island and is home to stunning beaches and a unique culture. In February and March the island takes part in pasolas, a game of spear throwing on horseback. Seventy kilometers east of Waingapu, a village sports large houses with megaliths, structures made of stone that stand up without the use of mortar or cement.
