February may be frosty all across the country, but Miami sports fans are feeling the Heat at these popular local pubs where the beer flows and fans in flip flops cheer for their favorite teams. Our All-Star review will have you perfectly situated for the NBA finals and the upcoming March Madness!
NBA All-Star Weekend kicked off Friday, February 18, and the SuperFriends LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh began lending their talents to the Eastern Conference roster. Fans who can not make the trip to Los Angeles can watch the dunk contests, skills challenges, and Sunday’s big game at these South Beach sports bars:
1. Clevelander Hotel (1020 Ocean Drive) Following a multi-million dollar renovation, South Beach’s most famous pool bar hosts a sandy foot sports bash every night of the week with 30 HDTVs across the property, so everyone can catch the action. The Game On Sports Bar broadcasts ALL sports ALL day on 13 flatties spanning the 30-foot bar.
2. Lucky Strike Lanes (1691 Michigan Avenue ) Lincoln Road’s rock & roll bowling alley is a magnet for couch potatoes who fill the leather sofas all throughout the cocktail area. Here you’ll find a dynamic video wall above the bar that offers 21 big screens tuned into the hottest sporting events. Big games bring out an all-you-can-eat buffet and the bar bite menu offers a dozen small plate nibbles plus pizza, burgers, sandwiches, and even warm chocolate chip cookies and shooters of milk. And it’s just a short walk from the Standard and the Ritz Carlton South Beach.
3. La Parrilla Liberty (609 Washington Avenue) Steps away from the Bentley Hotel and the Angler’s Boutique Resort, this Argentinean sports bar focuses primarily on soccer matches around the globe, but attracts legions of carnivores to its indoor and outdoor dining rooms. Fans feast on flaky empanadas, garlicky skirt steaks, spicy chorizo sausages, and sizzling sweetbreads without missing a moment of the game – or spilling a drop of frosty Quilmes beer.
4. Playwright Irish Pub (1265 Washington Avenue), Waxy O’Connor’s Irish Pub (1248 Washington Avenue) Two of the most popular pub-style sports bars in town are just across the street from one another, making it a great place for a beer crawl or a night of cheering for your favorite team with a pint of Guinness in one hand and a plate of fish & chips in the other. Both pubs keep fans wired into international telecasts of European and South American football (soccer). Plus rugby, boxing, American football, baseball, hockey, NASCAR, and basketball makes these bars ideal for thirsty guests of the Betsy and the Hotel Victor.
