Mediocre deals at mediocre hotels are a dime a dozen, of course, but we’re seeing something much more rare: worthwhile promotions at some (better than) worthwhile hotels. We’re always skeptical of supposed deals, so we did some checking to make sure they can actually save you some money. The three below are brand-wide sales, so we recommended a few properties in each chain that we think make for a great stay even at full price.

The deal:

In honor of Morgans Hotel Group’s 25th anniversary, stay at any of their properties between now and March 31, 2010, and receive off your room, plus two free drinks for your stay.

Guests must stay for at least two nights. We tested out a few different hotels and dates online and the prices were, in fact, exactly 25% less than without the code.

Start on this page or use code SPMO25 either online or on the phone. Note: Certain hotels in the group may be offering additional deals (changing daily), so be sure to check the bottom lefthand corner of their individual sites.

South Beach, Miami

Opened in 2009 and designed by design superstar Marcel Wanders, the off-the-beach Mondrian is as stylish as its party-centric South Beach siblings, the Delano and Shore Club, but lacks the hyped-up clubbers. Its impeccable service, kitchen-equipped rooms, and notable after-parties at the Sunset Lounge draw well-heeled singles but also families seeking more than the PG-13 kitsch of most family hotels. Times Square and Midtown West, New York City

A Times Square-area luxury boutique with stunning rooms and an uber-cool lobby/lounge, the Royalton is worth a visit for its contemporary, high-concept design alone. Read full review. Read full review.

Union Square, San Francisco

Known for its Redwood Room bar and Asia de Cuba restaurant, the Clift’s hip scene is typical of the Morgans Hotel Group, which bought the historic hotel from Four Seasons and reopened it in 2001 after a Philippe Starck makeover. The lobby and the 350 small but comfortable rooms are short on amenities but high on scene and style. Read full review.

European Pool at Encore at Wynn Las Vegas

The deal:

Sister properties Wynn Las Vegas and Encore at Wynn Las Vegas are giving off room rates when you book at least 45 days in advance.

: A two-night minimum stay is required. The deal only applies to Resort level rooms, which means all tower suites are excluded. “Blackout dates may apply,” but the reservations agent couldn’t give us exact days. There’s no expiration date for the promo, which were told probably means it’s good through 2010.

Use promo code EARLYBOOKING online or over the phone.

The Strip, Las Vegas

Opened in December 2008, the 2,034-room Encore is about pure opulence. Its giant rooms one-up even those at the Wynn and include such snazzy features as bedside curtain control, beautiful design, and enormous bathrooms. The rooms stand toe-to-toe with the Palazzo’s as the best in Vegas. Though a bit spiffier than Wynn, you can’t go wrong with each option. Read full review.

The Strip, Las Vegas

Remote-controlled drapes in the giant rooms, nine premier restaurants, an 18-hole golf course — the 2,716-room Wynn is one of the Strip’s most extravagant luxury hotels. Read full review.

Lobby at JW Marriott Washington, DC

The deal:

Save off weekend stays at Marriott hotels around the world from January 22 through March 21, 2010. Most hotels are offering 20% off, while some hotels in the Caribbean, Latin America, and Hawaii are offering closer to 40% off.

Not all Marriotts are participating (you can call 1-888-236-2427 to ask about your hotel of choice). Hotel stays must be booked by January 22 and must include a Friday or Saturday night (though Thursdays are included in the deal). In some particpating hotels, promo rooms are no longer available for certain dates.

Start on this page or use promotional code F5X. When we attempted to book over the phone, the discount was automatically applied for us (but if it’s not mentioned, inquire about the Global Rate Break). We found that even without use the promo code online, the discount was still applied.

Back Bay, Boston

Ideally located in Back Bay, just down the block from Copley Square, this 81-room Marriott has some of the best and biggest rooms for the buck in its location (making it a smart choice for families). Plus, it has a comfy business lounge with free computer and printer access, a small fitness room, and a quality $15 breakfast buffet. Read full review.

Penn Quarter, Washington, D.C.

A modestly plush, no-nonsense luxury hotel for the masses just steps away from the White House, the JW Marriott has a shopping mall-like multistory lobby and 772 cozy guestrooms. Read full review.

Oahu, Hawaii

With three pools, seven Jacuzzis, activities aplenty, and a top golf course, this family-friendly time-share in the Ko Olina complex has almost everything (though unfortunately no flat-screen TVs). And it’s far less crowded and more serene than the megaresorts in Waikiki. See full review.
