The 7 Best Rimowa Dupes
The 7 Best Rimowa Dupes-November 2024
Nov 7, 2024 10:15 PM

Sleek, silver, and durable, Rimowa suitcases are the pinnacle of utilitarian yet stylish travel gear. However, the $1400+ price tag feels out of reach for most travelers, myself included! Thankfully, Rimowa doesnt have a monopoly on chic and practical luggage. So I went on a quest to find the best Rimowa lookalikes on the market so we could all have a slice of the shiny, hardshell suitcase pie.

These are my top 7 Rimowa dupes that do the job:

  Table of Contents

  Toggle 1. Away2. Monos3. MVST Select4. Monoprice5. Calpak6. Travelking7. Samsonite 1. Away

While not a massive step down price-wise ($645–745 per piece), Away has a line of aluminum suitcases that look nearly identical to Rimowas. You can choose from the carry-on (35L), the bigger carry-on (40.9L), the medium (64.6L), and the large (95.1L).

Spec for spec, Aways aluminum line and Rimowas look almost identical and share most features. Both have a lifetime warranty, are made from nearly the same materials (down to the leather luggage tag), and have 360-degree wheels and dual TSA combination locks.

Considering that Aways luggage is half the price, they are some of the best Rimowa lookalikes out there.

  2. Monos

Though the Monos Hybrid collection has a smoother exterior and a polycarbonate shell rather than aluminum, these bags are still some of the best Rimowa dupes on the market. The silver finish and reinforced corners give them the Rimowa vibe but without the exorbitant price tag. Choose between the $325 carry-on (36L), $345 carry-on plus (43L), $405 check-in medium (70L), $435 check-in large (97L), or the $455 trunk (89L). Alternatively, you can bundle the bags in a two-piece set and save $20.

The Monos Hybrid suitcases are my favorite because of their rounded and sleek design and the brands overall focus on sustainability. The polycarbonate on the outside is made from partially recycled materials, and the insides soft microbial lining is made entirely from 100% recycled polyester. Monos also uses vegan leather details in this collection, which adds a touch of luxury to the suitcases, which also include antimicrobial, silver ion–coated laundry bags and two shoe bags, plus a luggage tag.

Monos offers a limited lifetime guarantee and a 100 days to try policy, so if you dont like your bag or find the quality to be subpar, you can return it within this period, no questions asked. The company sounds confident that its bags will stand the test of time, which is a green flag for me!

  3. MVST Select

It looks like a Rimowa, it feels like a Rimowa, but its a quarter of the price. MVST Select might not be as recognizable a name as Away, but its Trek Aluminum Suitcase in Silver earns its place as one of the best Rimowa dupes. This one comes in three sizes: carry-on (34L), medium checked (62L), and large checked (97L). I appreciate the simplicity of the sizing choices compared to the 11 available from Rimowa, which feels more complicated than it needs to be.

Plus, this option from MVST Select has nearly all the same bells and whistles: a lifetime warranty (though more limited than Aways or Rimowas), an unbreakable aluminum-magnesium alloy shell, zipperless closure, TSA-approved combination locks, 360-degree removable wheels, an interior pocketed panel, and even the same slow-release telescoping handles that Rimowas aluminum suitcases have.

  4. Monoprice

Another visual lookalike, the FORM by Monoprice Lightweight Aluminum Check-in Luggage is only $300 and has most of the same features as Rimowa offers. The aluminum shell has the same vertical bevel as Rimowas suitcases, with the same reinforced corners and dual TSA-approved combination locks.

The main differences between them are found inside. Where Rimowa has sleek mesh dividers with smooth leather accents, the Monoprice option has generic-looking polyester. Considering that it is nearly one-fifth of the price, however, this is a difference I would expect.

I also noticed that Rimowa emphasizes the high-quality aluminum polycarbonate used in its products. Upon further research, this is far more durable than Monoprices aluminum zinc material. The latter brand also offers customers only a one-year replacement warranty (vs. Rimowas lifetime one).

  5. Calpak

If you love Rimowas luggage for its looks, Calpaks Ambeur line offers aluminum-looking hardshell suitcases that have the same essence but for a small fraction of the price.

Also, why have just one suitcase when you can have three? The Ambeur 3-piece Luggage Set is $715 for a carry-on (43L), medium checked bag (72L), and large checked bag (115L).

At this point in the list, we start to see the most dramatic changes. First, the Ambeur bags are made not from aluminum but from polycarbonate and ABS (aka plastic). They have the look of metal, thanks to a snazzy paint job, but they are run-of-the-mill hardside suitcases.

That doesnt mean theyre not great quality, however. The material is still lightweight, even more so than the same-sized Rimowa option. The carry-on weighs 6 pounds compared to Rimowas cabin pluss (45L) 10.4 pounds.

Other distinct differences are the zippers (Rimowa doesnt have them), the interior pockets (Calpaks bags have more, but the material isnt as luxurious), and the TSA-approved locks, which clip to the zippers on the Calpak bags.

  6. Travelking

You may be able to fool onlookers at the luggage carousel with the Travelking All-Aluminum suitcases. While the corners of these bags are less rounded than Rimowas, theyre visually very close. With the same zipperless design, 360-degree rotating wheels, reinforced corners, and TSA combination locks, only a trained eye could tell these apart from the far more expensive Rimowas.

The similarities seem to stop there, however. The Travelking price tag is between $270 and $430, depending on the size. The suitcases come in 20 (30L), 24 (50L), and 28 (70L) sizes. The warranty is nonexistent, and the description boasts an all-aluminum composition, though its vague about what type of aluminum it is. Though Travelking clearly took all of Rimowas design notes, it dont offer as thorough descriptions of the materials and features.

  7. Samsonite

With a sleek and shiny design of its own, Samsonites Silhouette 17 Hardside Luggage Collection is one of the best Rimowa lookalikes that isnt intended to be an exact copy. Instead, the suitcases have a polycarbonate shell with an aluminum silver finish, making them lighter than the Rimowa alternatives.

These bags come in carry-on, medium, and large sizes, which dont have liter specifications but are about the same dimensions as the Calpak bags above. At $290-400 per suitcase, this option has the best extras. The suitcases feature outside zippers, packing cubes, USB ports (battery not included), dual durometer spinner wheels, integrated TSA locks, and a removable shoe or laundry bag. Plus, Samsonite offers a 10-year limited warranty.

  ***

If you still have your heart set on the Rimowa Original Collection and have the means to splurge, I dont blame you for going for the OG! After all, its lifetime warranty is one of the best youll find, and theres a reason why so many brands have created lookalikes.

I hope this helps you pick out your next best travel companion: a suitcase that will hold up on all of your exciting adventures. Which one will you choose?
