Back when I was a little squirt, my grandfather would often take me to Wendys. He was a child of the Depression, helped defeat the Nazis and matured into a generally serious gentleman who also just got a huge kick out of a square hamburger. Seriously, he would giggle. And so Wendys had a serious serving of nostalgia for me that continued into adulthood. Then Five Guys, In-N-Out and Shake Shack stole my fast-food money. Suddenly, all my hamburgers were round.

　　Going back to a Wendys earlier this year for the first time in many years, I ordered a Breakfast Baconatorthat ended up near last on our list of the best fast food breakfasts.
