A newer benefit for this card, you have the ability to spend your way to a higher elite status by earning one Elite Night Credit for every $5,000 you spend, with no cap.
Although this benefit caps out at $6,000 per year, it’s nice to earn a few extra points on everyday purchases such as food, gas and groceries.
These cards earn more bonus points on restaurants and U.S. supermarkets than the more expensive Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card, so it might be more beneficial for people who want to earn Marriott points on non-travel purchases. The two mid-tier Marriott cards earn 4x points on restaurants and U.S. supermarkets (on up to $15,000 in combined purchases at restaurants and U.S. supermarkets per calendar year, then 2X points).
Not only do Marriott purchases earn 6x points, but each stay will also net 1,000 bonus points. Keep in mind that NerdWallet values Marriott points at 0.8 cent each, so this benefit is only worth about $7 of Marriott points per stay.
