If you think that a U.K.-based frequent flyer program wouldn't have much to offer American travelers, think again. Since British Airways is part of the Oneworld alliance, which includes both Alaska Airlines and American Airlines, it can be a worthwhile option for globetrotters or those who travel within the United States.
With its main hub in London, British Airways flies to more than 200 destinations in 80 countries. Its frequent flyer program is called Executive Club, and when you fly with British Airways or any of its partners, you will earn Avios, which you can use to redeem for award flights, upgrades and other rewards.
Here’s what you need to know about earning Avios and how to redeem them.
What is Avios? It’s the name of the travel rewards currency earned by members of British Airways’ Executive Club. These can be used on British Airways flights, Oneworld partners or transferred to other Avios-earning airlines.
Each time you fly on a paid ticket with British Airways or with its Oneworld and partner airlines, you will earn Avios.
