The Guide to the World of Hyatt Award Chart
The Guide to the World of Hyatt Award Chart-September 2024
Sep 20, 2024 12:34 AM

With more than 1,150 hotels around the world offering multiple price points across 26 different brands, Hyatt provides ample opportunities for cashing in awards from its World of Hyatt loyalty program. Add into the mix the program’s partnership with MGM Rewards (though that's coming to an end) and Small Luxury Hotels of the World, and you have hundreds of more options for free hotel stays.

How many points are needed for a free night?

Free nights start at 5,000 points (3,500 points for off-peak), with no blackout dates. As long as there is availability, you can cash in your points for a free night. Each individual Hyatt hotel is assigned a category between 1-8, with a corresponding price to book in points.

Previously Hyatt had fixed award charts, however Hyatt switched to partially dynamic pricing by introducing off-peak, standard and peak awards. Furthermore, Hyatt has a separate award chart for standard rooms, club rooms, standard suites and premium suites.

Hyatt standard room award chart

Standard rooms range from 3,500 points (for a Category 1 off-peak award) to 45,000 points per night (for a Category 8 peak award).

Club room award chart

Club rooms range from 5,500 points (for a Category 1 off-peak award) to 55,000 points per night (for a Category 8 peak award).

Standard suites award chart

Standard suites range from 6,500 points (for a Category 1 off-peak award) to 66,000 points per night (for a Category 8 peak award).

Premium suites award chart

Premium suites range from 7,000 points (for a Category 1 off-peak award) to 90,000 points per night (for a Category 8 peak award).

Other Hyatt points charts

Hyatt also has award charts for all-inclusive resorts, Miraval properties and points + cash bookings.

All inclusive resorts

All-inclusive properties include complimentary gourmet dining, top shelf liquor, and numerous daytime and nighttime activities. Some all-inclusive properties cater to families while others are adults only. Because of all these additional amenities, Hyatt requires more points than for a regular hotel room.

For all-inclusive resorts, standard rooms range from 12,000 points per night (off-peak Category 1) to 58,000 points per night (peak Category 8). Club rooms, standard suites and premium suites also have their own award charts, and if you want to bring an additional person with you, you will have to pay a points supplement.

Miraval Resorts

Miraval Resorts include luxe accommodations and a $175 resort credit per person for each stay. The cost of the room depends on the room type and if it's single or double occupancy. These luxe properties are priced accordingly, with hotel nights beginning at 40,000 points per night for a single occupancy room.

Points + Cash bookings

If you don’t have enough points for an award night, you can use a combination of points and cash to book a room. Points + cash bookings are available at hotels (all-inclusive properties are excluded) and Miraval resorts.

The Hyatt points chart for room upgrades

Redeeming points for an upgrade through Hyatt is also pretty easy. It takes 3,000 points per night to upgrade to a club room and 6,000 points for a suite upgrade. Premium suite upgrades cost 9,000 points per night.

Using points to upgrade paid nights can be a great way to get into a fancier room if you’re for example on a work trip, or you don't have enough points to book a stay entirely using your points.

Tips for maximizing the Hyatt award chart

Like many hotel rewards programs, categories are not hotel-specific and are based on hotel popularity and destination. For example, Hyatt Place across from Universal Orlando Resort requires 12,000 points per night, while the airport location goes for 8,000 points.

Consider a weekend in San Francisco: The Grand Hyatt will cost 20,000 points per night, as will Hyatt Centric, Hyatt Regency and more boutique-style properties the Laurel Inn and Hotel Kabuki. To find lower point-entry, you’ll have to look farther afield in the destination of your choice, say Emeryville or San Francisco Airport.

MGM Rewards redemptions

As noted above, Hyatt's partnership with MGM Rewards is coming to an end. All reservations booked through Hyatt at MGM properties with a checkout date of Sept. 30, 2023, at the latest will be honored and eligible for earning World of Hyatt points or Tier Qualifying Nights.

Hyatt loyalists who status matched with MGM Rewards between March 1, 2023, and July 14, 2023, will retain their status through Jan. 31, 2024.

Redeeming points for Hyatt FIND experiences

Where Hyatt really does a bang-up job on its awards is through FIND, its selection of unique experiences around the world. You can use points on FIND experiences, from spa services to tours to exercise classes and vineyard visits.

Sample points for current FIND’s experiences and adventures include:

A 1-hour Balinese beauty massage ritual at Alila Seminyak — 5,357 points.

An Amalfi pasta-making class and dinner experience at Aram Reed in Chicago — 7,143 points.

A private tour of the Athirapally Waterfalls through Grand Hyatt Kochi, India — 9,429 points.

Spa relaxing and detoxifying bath at Hyatt Ziva Cancun, normally $170 —12,143 points.

Ride in the desert at Andaz Capital Gate Abu Dhabi — 19,286 points.

The activities are seemingly endless and can truly enhance a getaway. FIND programs are updated often and can be searched on World of Hyatt’s site by type of experience, location, price, time range and group size.

How to earn Hyatt points

If all of these redemptions have you dreaming about a free trip, start thinking about ways you can rack up Hyatt points. When staying at a Hyatt property, World of Hyatt members receive 5 points for every eligible $1 spent.

Hyatt rewards its most loyal travelers with extra points. If you reach elite status, you can earn bonus points:

Discoverists earn an additional 10% bonus points.

Explorists earn an additional 20% bonus points.

Globalists earn an additional 30% bonus points.

Like many hotel brands, Hyatt offers its own credit cards through which you can earn rewards even faster. Hyatt has two credit cards:

World of Hyatt Credit Card (annual fee: $95): Earn 30,000 Bonus Points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening. Plus, up to 30,000 More Bonus Points by earning 2 Bonus Points total per $1 spent in the first 6 months from account opening on purchases that normally earn 1 Bonus Point, on up to $15,000 spent.

World of Hyatt Business Credit Card (annual fee: $199): 60,000 Bonus Points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening.

Owning either of these cards will help accelerate your Hyatt points earning and also will offer lots of other perks.

But you don’t have to be locked into Hyatt to earn member rewards. If you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or any other card that earns Chase Ultimate Rewards® points, you can transfer Chase points to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio.

Get free nights using Hyatt milestone rewards

You can earn a free night at Hyatt through special milestones that won’t take as much to achieve. For example, stay at five different Hyatt brands at an eligible rate and you’ll receive a free night in a Category 1 - 4 hotel. This reward can be redeemed at a Hyatt hotel or resort, Small Luxury Hotels of the World or MGM Rewards hotel.

The bottom line

The Hyatt award charts still offer plenty of opportunities to redeem your points. You can use points at regular hotels, all-inclusive resorts and more. In addition, if you don’t have enough points for a free night, you can use a combination of cash + points to save money on your hotel stay.
