Every New Yorker has their very favorite weekend brunch spot that they swear by and attend religiously. Here are three classic brunch experiences, convenient if you’re staying in Soho or the East Village.

Prune (54 E. 1st Street) Brunch at this American bistro fave in the East Village is a deliciously no-fuss affair where staples are prepared with a global twist. The Bloody Mary comes in ten guises – from Classic to Southwest (Anejo tequila, smoked chipotle peppers and limes). The mainstays such as the eggs Benedict and the huevos rancheros are done to perfection, while more unique dishes include the lamb sausage & Malpeque oyster combo. Great choice for guests staying a few blocks away at the GEM Hotel Soho.

Balthazar (80 Spring Street) A quintessential New York experience that’s steps away from the Crosby Street Hotel, brunch at this classic Paris brasserie transplanted to the heart of Soho is a true must. Chow down on the famous bread freshly baked on the premises as you rub shoulders with the city’s glitterati. Expect all the standards – from steak frites to salade niçoise– as well as less usual dishes like sour cream hazelnut waffles with warm berries and duck shepherd’s pie.

Clinton Street Baking Company (4 Clinton Street) If you’re lucky to grab a seat in this hole-in-the-wall eatery on the Lower East Side, you’ll be treated to superbly prepared and well-priced brunch items. Order the buttermilk biscuit sandwich withscrambled eggs, melted cheddar and homemade tomato jam or the spicy shrimp and cheese grits served with fried green tomatoes and creamy Creole sauce. Within easy walking distance of the Thompson LES and Hotel On Rivington.
