There are few Washington, D.C, hotels as iconic as the Watergate, which underwent a $125 million renovation completed in 2016. The retro-sleek property is now one of the newest hot spots in the nation’s capital with a swanky restaurant, dynamic whisky bar, and a rooftop lounge, the latter of which has transformed into a magical winter wonderland. Here you’ll find a bona-fide ice rink, though it’s not quite NHL sized -- it’s only 70 by 20 feet and fits about 50 skaters. What it lacks in size, however, it makes up for with a skate-up bar. (We’ll let you decide whether or not you’re coordinated enough to drink and skate.) Skating is open to both the public and guests, and a one-hour session costs $20 for adults and $10 for kids (and it covers skate rentals!). If you’d just like to be a bystander, however, there’s plenty of action off the ice, and it’s free to mingle at the rooftop lounge here. There are fire pits at the tables to keep visitors warm as they sip on cocktails or spiked hot chocolate and cider.
